Biography
Ts. Dr. Hajar Fauzan Ahmad is an esteemed academic and researcher specializing in microbiology and biotechnology, particularly focusing on next-generation sequencing and the microbiome. With a Ph.D. in Food Microbiology and Fermentations from the University of Copenhagen, his thesis delved into the gut microbiome of older Danish adults, with a specific focus on the gut mycobiome.
Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, Dr. Ahmad has a strong teaching background, covering courses in Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Microbial Genomics. He actively supervises post-graduate students at both the Ph.D. and Master's levels, guiding research on various aspects of the gut microbiome, including its implications for health, diseases, and environmental interactions.
Dr. Ahmad's significant scientific contributions are evident through his co-authored articles in prestigious journals like Nature and Gut. His research spans topics such as the genetic aspects of COVID-19, the composition of gut microbiota in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and microbial profiling of environmental samples. His expertise in next-generation sequencing is showcased in studies concerning SARS-CoV-2 genomes and the gut mycobiome.
Acknowledged for his innovative work, Dr. Ahmad has received multiple awards, including Gold Awards at ITEX 2023 and CITREX 2023, along with a Best Service Award from the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia. He actively engages with the media, sharing insights on genomic research and vaccination, particularly concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.
