Biography
Gaanty Pragas Maniam is a Professor at Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). He received his PhD (Chemistry) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and his Graduate Diploma (Analytical Chemistry) from National University of Singapore (NUS). He was a Chemist at the Continental Chemicals Corporation, Singapore. His research interest is in sustainable renewables, green energy, heterogeneous catalysis, biodiesel preparation from algae and waste sources.
He has authored more than 100 journal articles and is a regular reviewer for more than 25 high impact energy-related journals. His journal article in Chemical Engineering Journal has been awarded the Top Cited Papers Award for 2011 and 2012 by Elsevier. He was the sole recipient of the Tan Sri Datuk Ong Kee Hui Postgraduate Chemistry Medal in 2011 from the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry. He has delivered his lecture as Keynote Speaker on Sustainability Issues at conferences in Malaysia, Italy, Thailand, Indonesia, India and China.
He has served UMPSA as a Director of Central Laboratory from 2013 to 2021. He is a Consultant at Algae International Berhad, Malaysia, Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member of Maejo International Journal of Science and Technology, International Journal of Green Technology, and International Journal of the Institute of Materials Malaysia. He is aÂÂ Co-Author of Position Paper on Sustainable Mining: Case Study for Bauxite Mining in Pahang by Akademi Sains Malaysia and Co-Author of book entitled Algae: Biodiversity, Influential Parameters and the Applications, UMPSA Press, Malaysia.
