Biography


After completing my undergraduate degree, I continued my postgraduate education, studying a Master of Science degree majoring in Molecular Biotechnology at the Institue of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia. In the same year, I was awarded the National Science Fellowship by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. My research involved the application of various molecular techniques for the identification of probiotic Lactobacillus strains for poultry. In 2013, I pursued my doctoral study at the University of Cambridge under the sponsorship of Ministry of Education. My study was to identify genes involved in pleiotropic co-regulation of GV production and biosynthesis of the carbapenem and prodigiosin antibiotics in Serratia sp. ATCC39006 (S39006). During the candidature of my phD, I have received five awards which including (i) The best poster award (7th in complete year) for 2nd Year PhD student Poster Symposium 2015 (ii) United Kingdom Microbiology Society Conference Grant (iii) President’s Fund from the Society of Applied Microbiology, United Kingdom. (iv) Newnham College, Univresity of Cambridge Research and Travel Fund (v) Cendekia Bitara Publication Award for research entitled “The LacI–family transcription factor, RbsR, is a pleiotropic regulator of motility, virulence, siderophore and antibiotic production, gas vesicle morphogenesis and flotation in Serratia.”
