Biography

Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Syed Mohd Saufi Bin Tuan Chik is an esteemed figure in chemical and process engineering. He is renowned for his expertise in membrane technology, biorefinery processes, protein separation, adsorption, and water treatment. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical & Process Engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand in 2010, marking the beginning of his steadfast commitment to academic excellence.

His research encompasses membrane-based processes for boron removal and the innovative synthesis of hybrid polymer/cellulose nanocrystals/graphene oxide blend membranes tailored to enhance water and wastewater treatment efficiency. Furthermore, his investigation into supported liquid membranes has yielded valuable insights, offering pathways for extracting organic acids, inhibitors, and precious metals from diverse sources. His systematic approach to customizing membrane support formulations, refining carrier selections, and optimizing fabrication parameters underscores his dedication to improving separation methodologies. In protein purification, Dr. Saufi's exploration of membrane chromatography techniques has facilitated the efficient recovery of essential proteins such as lactoferrin, lysozyme, alpha-lactalbumin, beta-globulin, and others. Through his tireless endeavors, he continues to drive progress in membrane technology and its applications, making significant contributions to sustainable engineering solutions on a global scale.
